TOEIC - (Test of English for International Communication), Melbourne, Australia

The TOEIC is based on your overall ability to use English. Improvement in proficiency may take some time and is generally achieved through a combination of practice and study.   Everyday working and conversational English is used. TOEIC does not test business English to the extent that any specialised business or technical vocabulary is required. TOEIC scores indicate how well people can communicate in English with others in business, commerce, and industry. The scores are widely used by clients from that sector wishing to test competence in English.

The test

It is A TWO-HOUR multiple choice answer test, and a further HALF HOUR should be allowed for administration. There are 200 questions, divided into two sections:

  • Listening Section
There are 100 listening comprehension questions on audio cassette. You will listen to a variety of statements, questions, short conversations, and short talks recorded in English; Then you answer the questions.
    (Approximately 45 minutes)
  • Reading Section
There are 100 reading questions consisting of three types. You will read a variety of materials and answer the questions at your own pace.
    (Approximately 75 minutes)

Who takes a TOEIC test?

There are many different types of candidates who take the TOEIC test. For example, people who use English in work situations, such as businesses, hotels, hospitals, restaurants, conventions, international meetings, and sports events, managerial, sales, and technical employees in international commerce, business, or industry, who require English for their work, candidates for training which is to be conducted in English.

The TOEIC Test is not the kind of test that one 'passes' or 'fails'. The continuous scale enables learners to set achievable goals and to measure progress as their English improves. Many students and language schools complete testing regularly to measure improvement over time. Ask us, or your school about the benefits of such an approach.

Who conducts the testing?
