Latin Festival 2008
Latin Fiesta @ the International College
Friday, December 19th 2008
La Trobe University International College students celebrated the end of 2008 with a day of Latin American culture; including food, live music, dancing, and presentations on history and life in the region today.
Students presented on Christopher Colombus’ voyage to the Americas, and videos about Mexico, Cuba, Colombia and on the ‘Tierra del fuego’ in Argentina.
This was followed by FIESTA! A local Latin-community 6-piece live-band played classic rhythms of salsa, cha cha, and merengue, and drove even the shiest students onto the dance-floor.
Meanwhile regional delicacies
were served to fuel the dancing. These included fantastic frijoles (beans), amazing empanadas, as well as pico de gallo, guacamole and salsa dips.
Finally both teachers and students were able to cry out “hasta la vista babe, see you in 2009”, and farewell a busy and productive year.
