Head, Humanities and Social Sciences

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences has had a presence on the Albury-Wodonga campus for over ten years. Our mission is two-fold. Firstly we are committed to offering the same quality of tertiary education that students receive on other campuses of the university. Disciplines we offer in Albury-Wodonga are Art History, English, History, Philosophy, Social Sciences, Sociology and Theatre and Drama. Secondly, we are also committed to regional engagement and capacity building within the Border area; not only by providing high-quality tertiary education for students, but also by engaging in research that is relevant and timely to regional concerns.

Areas of interest in the Humanities and Social Sciences range across concerns and issues virtually as wide as life itself. If you are seeking understanding and insight in the study areas offered, you will find great rewards in the pursuit of these studies. Besides gaining knowledge and understanding of at least one important area, you may expect to gain from your course intellectual skills which will be useful well beyond your university studies. Among these are the capacity for handling and processing complex information, the ability to analyse and assess theories, to argue rigorously and critically and to exercise flexibility of mind.

In each discipline, we offer a range of units which allow considerable flexibility of choice. Through a combination of locally-based lecturers and tutors, visiting lecturers from Melbourne and state-of-the-art electronic transmission of teaching materials between campuses, we offer a broad program which is relevant to both future careers and life interests.

You will find brief details of the undergraduate units offered by the Faculty at Albury-Wodonga on this website. The Faculty also has a distinguished record of research and publication and offers postgraduate supervision in a broad range of areas. Please contact us if you would like to explore either undergraduate or postgraduate study opportunities in the Faculty.
