Meet our student

Sofia Monkiewicz

Course of study:
Bachelor of Journalism (Honours)

My name is Sofia Monkiewicz and I’m a brand new student ambassador at La Trobe University. One day I hope to work as an arts journalist, writing about performance, music and events.

I finished my Bachelor of Journalism last year and this year I am undertaking Honours in journalism, working on a thesis about the current state of arts journalism in Melbourne.

When I was in my final year of high school, I had no idea what I wanted to study at university and needed a lot of advice. Now I am a student ambassador, I’m able to help prospective students with their own choices. I know how hard and daunting it can be to decide on a future career path, so I like that I can now help new students make their own informed decisions.

Aim high and follow your ultimate goal. Even if you don’t obtain the ATAR score you need to do the course you want, there are so many other pathways to get there. Research all possibilities and speak to people who work in your dream job. If you want something enough and work hard for it, you will get there.

La Trobe is such a fun place to study. It has a relaxed, friendly atmosphere and a great variety of courses. From the range of facilities and many study areas to extra-curricular activities, there really is something for everyone. La Trobe provides many different ways to meet new people and showcase your talents, making your whole degree a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
