Jonathan - Bachelor of Arts
I was offered the opportunity to study the Bachelor of Arts at the Bendigo campus in late 2006 after a year in Mongolia. 2008 is my second year and is leading into a major in Religious Philosophy. The best thing about my course is the wide range of subjects offered and the lengthy debates that ensue from the discussions between lecturers and fellow students.
What l love most about the Bendigo campus is the relaxed and accepting environment. The bond between lecturers and students is quite unique.

Toni - Bachelor of Urban, Rural and Environmental Planning
I’m a mature age student and I love being at uni. At first I was dubious about returning to study as my life was already full, but now with some time management and family support there is no stopping me.
I chose this course as I’m interested in the subjects offered and I want to be a part of the big picture when it comes to looking after the environment.
The best thing about my course is the skills and knowledge that I am acquiring which will mean I can play a part in making a difference for future generations.
What I love most about La Trobe is the quality of the academics who are still practicing in the field and who are sharing their years of experience with us.
This course has opened up many doors for me. I eventually want to work in remote outback communities in order to improve and revitalise their towns, as well as with the mining and development industries.

- Administered by the Faculty of Law and Management students are able to undertake the Bachelor of Arts as part of the Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts double degree. Students undertake their first two years of study at the Bendigo campus and then transfer to the equivalent combined degree program at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, where they complete the remainder of their course.
Honours and Post-graduate Studies
- Undertaking Honours provides students with an additional year of intense investigation into a particular discipline area. Many students find that Honours gives them the opportunity to expand and explore in greater depth their area of acdemic interest.
- The Graduate Diploma in Arts is intended principally for graduates who wish to extend their range of expertise by studying an undergraduate discipline or area of study not previously studied formally. The program may be taken in any one of the disciplines or areas of study offered in the Bachelor of Arts.
- These courses are designed specifically to provide education and training from sub-professional to post-professional level. They focus on the sustainable development of resources and the planning of rural areas, country towns, and regional centres.
- The course is designed to produce skills and leadership capacities relevant to a range of middle and senior management positions in government departments and agencies working with communities, especially those in rural areas, community development agencies, local governments, non-government organisations, and organisations who work with rural and regional development issues and communities, both nationally and internationally.

Laura - Master of Arts (Community Development)
I chose to study at La Trobe’s Bendigo campus because I believe the university is well placed for students in my field to carry out work placement in the neighbouring smaller towns and secondly, the fact that La Trobe is the only university in the whole of Australia that offers my course for two years. Being in a foreign country for at least two years enables one to learn the country’s unique culture, appreciate the friendliness of its citizens, acclimatize to the country, travel around and much more.
La Trobe has created a balance for me in theory and practice which I have wanted to achieve in my study. Networking with professionals in the local council and non governmental institutions in Bendigo has helped me enjoy the practical part of my course.
