PublicationsI publish in a range of areas and in a variety of formats. My publications include a number of books and book chapters dealing specifically with research methods; books, journal articles and chapters that focus on my substantive areas of research – mainly on sociology of the family, ageing and retirement. In addition I have published a number of research reports. My publications are aimed at different audiences. My different books are aimed at different audiences – some are aimed at upper level students and research practitioners, others are aimed at undergraduate students and others are directed to researchers and a more general audience. Graduate SupervisionI am happy to supervise postgraduate students in empirically based research projects. I supervise in both quantitative, qualitative and mixed-method studies. Research GrantsMy research is supported by a range of grants from external research funding bodies including the Australian Research Council, The World Health Organisation and the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation. Research ProjectsMy research is empirically based and concentrates mainly on Australian data. The emphasis of my research various from pure, curiosity based research to policy relevant studies. Professional InvolvementsI am involved with a number of different academic journals as well as serving on a range of advisory bodies associated with my own particular research interests and with research more broadly.
