Programs for the community
University study is available to members of the community who are not formally enrolled in a degree offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, but who are interested in furthering their knowledge of a specific area or discipline. You have the choice of studying as an assessed (single subject) or non-assessed (audit subject) student. You may apply to study at La Trobe via two different methods:
Either of these methods afford you the opportunity to sample university study with a view to seeking formal enrolment or for you to simply attend classes that are of interest to you. While there is no guarantee of selection into the degrees offered by Humanities and Social Sciences, upon completion of Single subject studies many students have been able to use successfully completed subjects as the basis for selection in order to demonstrate academic merit if previous results were not sufficient. What subjects can I choose? Most subjects within the Faculty Humanities and Social Sciences are available for study, although final approval for enrolment is conditional upon the consent of the subject coordinator and the Faculty. To explore these areas of study and the subject that they offer, please click on the links below. Once you have chosen the subjects you wish to study check that they are available at a convenient time by looking at the University timetable online.

Voluntary General Service FeeThe Commonwealth Government recently passed legislation prohibiting higher education providers from charging a compulsory General Service Fee. This legislation came into effect on 1 July 2006 for students commencing their course from 1 July onwards. Students enrolling before 1 July 2006 are subject to the existing arrangements for their higher education provider. La Trobe University will assess GSF (Compulsory) on the basis of annual load. The amount of GSF (Compulsory) calculated according to load in 2006 will appear on your Statement of Account. La Trobe University students are required to pay the GSF (Compulsory) for the full year and will continue to have access to the full range of services throughout 2006. From 1 January 2007 students will be offered the opportunity to voluntarily subscribe to services. For further information refer to the section on Gereral Service Fees at www.latrobe.edu.au/acadserv/current/fees.html
