Office for the Associate Dean, (International)

Goal

To make the Faculty widely recognized internationally as a place where outstanding scholars want to work and outstanding students want to study

Objectives

Initiatives
  • respond to international approaches to the Faculty, as requested by the Dean
  • follow up and report on the results of initiatives
  • consolidate and expand, through visits, exchanges and joint-enterprises, existing international links and international programs
  • build new international links in places of particular relevance to the Faculty’s interests and strengths
  • encourage participation of staff and postgraduate students in international programs and responsibilities of the Faculty
Liaison
  • liaise with other international units across the university (including, PVC international, IPO, RGSO, Language Centre, Adjunct Prof to VC on International Matters, other Faculty ADIs)
  • oversee the work of Faculty International Programs Committee
  • oversee the work of the ADI project officer
  • report to the Faculty Committees: Dean's meeting, Board, Budget and Planning, Research Committees
  • liaise with Centres and Regional Focus Groups undertaking international initiatives
  • liaise with Australia Studies initiatives that have implications for exchange and study abroad
Organisation
  • map the activities of the Faculty and its members overseas, including formal agreements and programs and places where Faculty members have active links
  • identify the countries of origin of overseas students studying in the Faculty
  • create an electronic database of the Faculty’s international well-wishers and contacts which can be used to disseminate news or solicit advice
  • compile and understand rules of the university and laws of state and Commonwealth governments relating to overseas activities

Marketing
  • maintain a webpage that compiles information about international activities, both to act as a reference for staff and students and as a promotional tool
  • produce printed material to highlight Faculty courses of particular interest to international students
  • liaise with the Faculty Promotions and Marketing Officer on marketing objectives
