Arts

This course offers students more than the opportunity to become an expert in a particular field of knowledge. They also learn how to handle complex bodies of information, to analyse and evaluate information, to argue clearly using the spoken and written word, and to work with a constructive openness and flexibility of mind.

Cinema studies

Study contemporary and historical forms of film, visual culture, narrative form, screenwriting, screen analysis and criticism.

English

The study of literature introduces you to the wealth of imaginative writing in English from the Renaissance to the present day. We teach across the contemporary syllabus.

Journalism

Study the social, political, economic and cultural role of the media. Learn about print, broadcast and online journalism and digital media. Develop skills in research, writing, editing and production.

Linguistics

Understand the structure and design of language, how language relates to thinking and how it functions in society. Explore how language develops and changes, and how it is acquired and learned.

Media studies

Explore how we communicate in film, television, radio, the press, publishing and digital media. Learn about the historical, political, and cultural aspects of media and understand developments and debates in the media and communication industries.

Philosophy

Philosophy studies key questions about the nature of reality and knowledge and how we should live in the world. Explore issues such as the causes and nature of things, the principles governing existence, the material universe and human behaviour.

Strategic communication

How do community organisations communicate to the public as well as building their profile? How do corporations develop a brand and then protect it when crises arise? These are roles fulfilled by strategic communication practitioners.
