Brief Profile

Dr. Yuzeng Xu teaches students from different levels in different Chinese subjects. His major research interest relates to Chinese as a second language acquisition. His publications are mainly in the field of applied linguistics. My duty is to lead the panel setting, exam and review NAATI tests and provide consultations to NAATI and the government bodies in relation to Chinese language and language translation issues. In, 1999 I was also invited and had completed a research project in relation to establish an accreditation system of translators and interpreters for Taiwan with Fu Jin Catholic University. Dr Xu has given many public lectures to the Chinese and Australian communities and he was invited many times to give talks about Chinese issues on ABC, SBS radios. He has been as Honorary Visiting Professor of two universities in China.

(This is a longitudinal study of three native English speaking Australians’ development of Chinese as a second language. It is an examination of the relevance of principles from the ZISA and SAMPLE models of second language development for selected features of the Chinese language.)
