Brief Profile
Steinar Ellingsen is a Norwegian journalist currently working on a practice-based Ph.D., creating a documentary web series chronicling a ten-week odyssey in Australia. Born in Kongsberg, Norway, Steinar started as a freelance journalist and photographer in 1997, working mainly for regional newspaper Laagendalsposten, covering news, sports and culture, and working casually as Sports editor. In 2007, he was nominated for a Norwegian SKUP award, as part of a reportage team at Laagendalsposten investigating a crisis in the local age care service.
Steinar holds an Honours degree in journalism (La Trobe University, 2007). His Honours thesis, Fighting the Bushfire: Reinventing the East Brunswick Club was written as a series of extended feature articles, which looked at the re-launch of the 200-year-old Melbourne corner pub as a live music venue, in a rapidly changing and post-industrial, suburban environment.
