Brief profile

Dr Michael O’Keefe lectures in International Relations. He is particularly interested in Australian Foreign Policy (especially toward the South Pacific) and US politics. His recent publications include ‘Australia and the Fragile States of the South Pacific’, in Trading On Alliance Security 2001-2005 and ‘Anti-Americanism and US Bases’ in Anti-Americanism: History, Causes, Themes.

 

Michael’s research interests include the preceding issues and new forms of insecurity in relation to state fragility and epidemic diseases (HIV/AIDS). He manages two websites for practitioners in the HIV policy field: (www.hivpolicy.org and www.hivpolicytoolkit.org). 

 

Michael’s administrative responsibilities include being Convenor of the Bachelor of International Relations and Director of Teaching and Learning for the School of Social Sciences. He has been actively involved in the Design for Learning process with an emphasis on curriculum renewal. Michael also has regular spots on the ABC's 730 Report, ABC Insiders, ABC 774, Radio National, 3CR, ABC.net, New Matilda, etc. Michael’s writing has also appeared in The Age, The Australian, Sydney Morning Herald, and Fiji Times.
