Brief profile

Maria is a media artist and post-doctoral fellow in the School of Communication, Arts and Critical Enquiry. She completed her PhD at Macquarie University, Sydney in 2009. The title of her thesis was Uncertain Practices Unsitely Aesthetics. Her research is focused on media art practices in public places, in particular the different aesthetic discourses that these "uncertain" practices bring into play with their disruptive position at the intersection of both contemporary art and media art.

Maria is currently editing a book for Errant Bodies Press, titled Uncertain Practices Unsitely Aesthetics.

In her media art practice Maria regularly collaborates with sound artist Norie Neumark as Out-of-Sync . Their most recent works are In Search of the Inland Sea, Searching for rue Simon-Crubellier, The Fourth Floor :: Le Quatrième étage and Talking About the Weather.
