Brief profile

Angie Black studied film and television at Swinburne Institute of Technology (VCA, VIC).  After graduating from film school, Angie worked in documentary and factual television in London. Returning to Melbourne she become a recipient of Film Victoria’s ‘Independent Filmmakers Fund’ in which she directed the award winning short film Bowl Me Over. Angie has directed several award winning short films, been a script reader and development head for several prominent feature film & television producers and a television commercials director for the award winning production company ‘The Directors Group’.

Angie completed her MA in Media & Cinema at La Trobe University, producing a speculative sci-fi feature film screenplay as part of her Creative Thesis. She is currently completing a PhD in Media Arts at La Trobe University, which examines the use of humour in depicting taboos surrounding women’s sexuality in performance on Australian screen. She continues to develop a number of media projects of her own and researches in the areas of film and television production and screenwriting.
