Human Physiology and Anatomy

The School of Human Biosciences provides coursework and research facilities for students in the Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University. The School's strengths are its focus on human health and its expertise in the areas of human physiology and anatomy and ergonomics.

The School plays a vital role in teaching, research, continuing education, and consulting activities. There are exciting opportunities for postgraduate research at Master and PhD levels in a wide range of areas relating to human function.

Staff in the School have applied their academic disciplines to develop multi-disciplinary approaches to problems in health sciences areas. With its specialised laboratory facilities, the School of Human Biosciences is an attractive choice for students considering postgraduate research.

Consulting Activities

Incorporated within the School is the Centre for Ergonomics and Human Factors, which carries out consultancy, research and training activities in ergonomics and human factors.

Also within the School is the National Forensic Handwriting Consultancy, which is a unit of the Handwriting Analysis and Research Laboratory. The consultancy conducts forensic handwriting or signature examination associated with criminal or civil investigations. This service is provided to private individuals, the legal profession, government and commercial organisations.

Research Facilities

The School is continuing to develop its research facilities. The current facilities include basic and specialised research equipment in physiology, microanatomy, biochemistry, biomechanics and ergonomics.
