News and Information

PhD student, Brianna Julien, with supervisor, Dr Andrew Bendrups, at the Australian Physiological Society Conference in Newcastle, December, 2007. Brianna presented an excellent poster entitled "Effects of a cognitive task on sway and postural reflex activity during standing", based on one of her PhD projects.

Teaching Resources

Various resources relevant to courses taught by the School can be accessed through the Internet:
  • Pathology Home Page: information for viewing with your Web browser. A password is required from the pathology lecturer.
  • Physiology stacks: tutorials and quizzes available for download (only for use on an Apple Macintosh computer; however, an unformatted extract of the text of each quiz is provided for non-Mac users).
  • Timetables: only available for HBS1HRB, 2nd and 3rd year physiology.
  • Lecture notes: only available for some specialized areas of teaching (see also course manuals below).
  • Course manuals: copies of practical and/or lecture manuals that are generally also available for purchase; only available for HBS1HRB, and 2nd and 3rd year Physiology.
  • Past exam papers: only available for 2nd and 3rd year physiology at present.
  • Physiology notice boards: information relating to Physiology units may be found here (CLICK BELOW).
  • Ergonomics resources: go to www.latrobe.edu.au/ergonomics

Research Activities

The School conducts research in several main fields of study including:
  • connective tissue (cartilage and bone)
  • ergonomics (see www.latrobe.edu.au/ergonomics)
  • forensic handwriting analysis
  • muscle & exercise physiology
  • neurosciences
  • pharmacology

Research is not restricted to these areas and has encompassed topics as diverse as the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine and the evaluation of computer-assisted learning programs in anatomy.

The School offers opportunities to conduct postgraduate research towards the degrees of Master of Applied Science, Master of Ergonomics and PhD. A brochure detailing the research interests of the School's academic staff is available from the Division Office. An online version can be viewed by clicking below.
