Qualifications: MA (Oxon)

 

Distinctions: La Trobe University staff member 1971-1999, and Professor Emeritus 2000- ; Fellow of the Society of American Historians; 1980 Douglas Adair Medal for ‘Evangelical Revolt… Virginia’, decade’s best article in WMQ (1974); 1983 Pulitzer Prize in History and 1983 National (USA) Historical Society Prize for The Transformation of Virginia 1740-1790 (1982).

Research interests: American Revolution; social & ethnographic history.

Research Projects

The world of an 18th-century diarist; the history of Williamsburg, Virginia.
