Seminar Series
The international reputation of many of our staff means that leading academics from Europe, North America and Asia regularly visit to give guest lectures and participate in research symposia. Postgraduate students are encouraged to attend these special events and other special seminars, such as the seminar on colonial and ‘postcolonial’ histories. Students must meet with their designated supervisors regularly and attend the postgraduate collegial seminars, where they present work-in-progress papers throughout their candidature. The seminars promote research collaboration, collegiality and provide networks of support among postgraduate students.
Colonial and 'Post'-Colonial Histories Seminar Series - The History Program also runs the Colonial and 'Post'-Colonial Seminar Series for staff, postgraduate and honours-level historians.
Many prestigious former members still contribute to the History Program today. Most recently several participated in the History postgraduate conference in March 2009, including Pulitzer Price winner Rhys Isaac, multi-award winner Inga Clendinnen (who gave the keynote address), Gustavus Myers Award winner John Salmond, as well as many others. Illustrous scholars like Bill Breen, Jim Hammerton, Paul Rule, Tony Disney, Alec Tyrrell, and Walter Philips also served as chairs or commentators. Many of these scholars also continue to attend the postgraduate seminar whenever possible and even contribute to the internal workshop series.
