School of Historical and European Studies

History Program

History has been taught at La Trobe since the University's beginnings in 1967. The staff have a strong commitment to teaching and over the years have gained a reputation for innovation and dedication. For instance La Trobe pioneered the first History and Film subjects. Its staff developed a new interdisciplinary method of historical research now known world-wide as the approach of 'The Melbourne School'. Recently History has joined with Archaeology, Art History and the European language programs to become the School of Historical and European Studies, which has produced fruitful inter-disciplinary collaboration ... more information about the History Program at La Trobe and areas of study.
