Ms Dana Kabaila

Course of study:
Bachelor of Speech Pathology 2010

Which course where you enrolled in, and what year did you finish; did you study full-time or part-time?

I am currently studying 3rd year Bachelor of Speech Pathology full time and will graduate at the end of 2010. Previous to this I studied a 1st year Bachelor of Arts, majoring in AUSLAN.

What led you to the course – what pathway did you take to La Trobe?

I deferred from Arts to work for a year and buy a car. I completed first year Arts and via internal transfer moved to study speech pathology.

Did anything or anyone help you make your choice, and if so, how? What influence your decision?

Friends, family and La Trobe staff and students and open day helped me choice my pathway into studying speech pathology.

What where the best things about the course and about studying at La Trobe, for you?

The lecturers are experts in their field and very inspiring. The clinical placement are very exciting and motivating. I have made important social connections and I enjoy spending time in the campus grounds.

What did you like most about your campus?

The lawns, cafes and computer labs.

How did your course help you after you graduated – did you have a specific job or career path in mind, or further studies?

When I graduate I would like to apply for work in the area of early intervention.

If you recently graduated, what advice would you give Secondary School students about the university experience and choosing a course at university?

I have not graduated yet, but I highly recommend choosing a course that you feel that you will enjoy and use voluntary work in the field as a way to discover what your interests are.
