Course of study:
Master of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics 2012

What made you decide to undertake Postgraduate studies?

A compelling motivation behind applying for a Master of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics as a field of study is that the course has immense potential for service to the community and beyond. Having a background in Biomedical Engineering, I believe that undertaking postgraduate studies in a relevant discipline, such as Prosthetics and Orthotics, is a natural progression in my learning process.

What pathway did you take to La Trobe?

Bachelor of Engineering (Biomedical) – University of Melbourne
Worked as a Business Services Representative at a pharmaceutical software company after graduating from Unimelb, while undertaking a part time Master of Business Administration (Marketing) at the University of Newcastle

What made you decide to enrol at La Trobe?

La Trobe University is the only institution in Asia-Pacific that offers Prosthetics and Orthotics training at a post graduate level. I was fortunate enough to be chosen for the first intake for Master of Clinical Prosthetics and Orthotics, and have been loving it since!

Where do you see the course taking you – do you have a specific job or career path in mind, or maybe further studies? Do you think your course gives you good career opportunities?

I’m open to any opportunities in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics after graduation. I’m also hoping to undertake research projects whilst working.

What do you like most about your campus?

I love the friendliness and openness of the administrative staff, students and lecturers at La Trobe. Coffee’s fantastic and the Ag is perfect for lunchtime catch ups!

Are there any other comments you’d like to make about your course, or about La Trobe generally? Have you undertaken any placement?
I’ve just completed an 8 week placement at Canberra Hospital. Had a really fabulous time working and learning from the clinicians and technicians there. Placement is fantastic, as it allowed me the opportunity to put theory into practice and gain some perspective on university life.

Do you have any good tips for other students considering undertaking PG Studies?
Understand the curriculum of the postgraduate course you wish to undertake, so that you can be fully prepared mentally and financially. If placement is essential, discuss the possibilities of interstate travel with your loved ones as well.
