Meet our student
Mr Darren Austin
Course of study:
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) 2011
After competing in Australian swim and kayaking teams as a secondary school student Darren got a close up look at physiotherapy and knew he wanted to embark on a career in the profession. Unfortunately Darren did not quite get the ENTER he required to gain entry into La Trobe’s physiotherapy course straight out of school.
After taking some time off to travel and work, Darren decided to enrol in an Exercise and Sport Science degree at another university and upon the completion of that he applied for physiotherapy at La Trobe and was accepted.
He might have taken a longer route of getting into physio at La Trobe than some of his classmates, but Darren is just so happy to be finally studying at La Trobe to qualify as a physiotherapist.
Darren has made plenty of friends attending La Trobe social events such as the University Ball and has also secured work experience at the Richmond Football Club.
Darren’s top tipMissing out first time around on getting into your preferred course can be hard but stay focused and continue to work towards your goal. You’re a long time in the workforce so definitely don’t give up on your passion just because you have to take the long way round.
