Clinical and professional placements

A placement during your course

Unpaid clinical or professional placements in hospitals and clinics are a requirement of most of our courses. Our extensive networks and funding arrangements guarantee placements for the compulsory component of your course. Placements are usually in metropolitan and rural areas with some opportunities interstate and overseas. You will be assigned to an agency on a full-time basis for several weeks and may be required to complete your placement during holiday periods. You are covered by our insurance policies during placement.

Police security clearance procedures and working with children’s check

Most placement agencies require a Victorian or New South Wales police security clearance check. Checks are valid for 12 months, so you will need to repeat this process each year of your course where practical placement is required. You must also have a Working With Children check, valid for five years. If you are concerned about what a security check might find, talk this over with your course coordinator as it may affect your ability to complete your course.

Immunisation and health procedures

You will need a medical check for a placement. Many placement agencies require proof of immunisations and testing. We strongly recommend you are immunised and tested for hepatitis A and B, influenza, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and chicken pox. If you have an infectious condition such as HIV and HBV, you must take every reasonable precaution to avoid risk to others. See the faculty policy for more information.

We have limited funding for grants if you need to travel 100 kilometres or more from your home to your placement.  We pay $20 per day up to a maximum of $100 per week.
