Joint rehabilitation

Study in human movement rehabilitation seeks better understanding of biophysical needs and more effective treatment responses.

The Muscle Function and rehabilitation group is interested in how muscle functions and the impact of exercise and muscle function on the rehabilitation of people with injuries or disabilities.  Our group includes laboratory based research based around muscle activation, as well as the effect of interventions in the clinic, providing bench top to bedside research.

Our group includes basic research into muscle function including investigations into the muscle activity of clinically relevant conditions at the shoulder, hip and foot.  Techniques in laboratory studies include fine wire electromyography and diagnostic ultrasound.  Clinical research includes trials in hospitals and the community that evaluate the effect of interventions such as progressive resistance training on functional activities for people with disabilities including cerebral palsy and Down syndrome.
