Joint orthopaedics

The goal of this research area is to improve outcomes for people with joints affected by injury or chronic conditions, such as osteoarthritis.

The knee orthopaedics group has a research focus on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and reconstruction surgery as well as knee osteoarthritis. Research projects conducted by the group include clinical trials that compare surgical approaches and prostheses, as well as the assessment of dynamic function and recovery after surgery.

The group utilises a state of the art Human Movement Laboratory to investigate recovery of dynamic knee function after ACL reconstruction surgery. There is much scope for research students who are interested in the relationship between human movement and sports injury and rehabilitation.
