Our research partnerships in the CRC for Aboriginal Health seek practical solutions to improve health service and policy

La Trobe University seeks to improve the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a number of ways.  It is committed to supporting pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who wish to undertake postgraduate studies across a wide range of health professions.  It seeks to develop the capacity of staff to mentor and supervise such students.  It also wishes to develop partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve the health of their people.

La Trobe University was one of the original partners of the Cooperative Research Centre for Aboriginal Health (CRCAH), now the Cooperative Research Centre in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health (CRCATSIH).  Over the past decade this University has contributed a number projects, including some in-kind, to this national Research enterprise.

Within the University, and through the leadership of Nellie Green, Ngarn-gi Bagora offers a space within the University to support its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.  A range of supports is offered.  Ngarn-gi Bagora iis located near the library.

While the University is open to new partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, there are a number of particular strengths it already has and that it continues to develop.  These include Mother and Child Health Research (MCHR), the Bouverie Centre for family and mental health and Men’s Health and its links with Mibbinbah Ltd.
