Driver Assessment Clinic
The School of Occupational Therapy at La Trobe University has been involved in Driver assessment since 1987. The Driver Research/Education Unit was established in 2002 to develop and promote research, teaching and clinical excellence in the area of Occupational Therapy driver assessment. The clinic has no specific catchment area and accepts referrals from clients as well as medical and staff in Allied Health.
Referrals and appointments
Download a Referral Form (DOC 97KB), or one can be faxed to you on request. Ensure that a VicRoads Medical Report has been completed and that the national medical standards to hold a licence/permit to drive a car have been met. Appointments for an occupational therapy driver assessment are made over the phone and confirmed in writing.

How to get to the driver assessment clinic
The Occupational Therapy school is located on level 4 of Health Sciences Building 3 (HS3) near car park 1. There is a lift in the building or stair access up to level 4.
Parking options
The La Trobe University Bundoora campus is 14 km from Melbourne city centre and takes 30 minutes to drive (See Melways: 19 G7). See the Campus Map (PDF)
- For individuals who hold a disability parking permit a reservation to park in a disabled parking bay can be made. The most convenient disabled parking bays are in car park 1, outside the West Lecture Theatres (WLT).
- A reservation can also be made to park in the visitor’s car park for free.
- The most convenient drop off point is outside the West Lecture Theatres (WLT).
Public transport options
There are 11 buses or tram 86 to La Trobe Bundoora campus. Refer to our Transport Central website for detailed travel information -or call the La Trobe Transport Central office (9479 1079).
Costs
The driver assessment is broken down into three separate costs: Driving instructor fee (clients need to bring cash on the day of their on-road assessment and pay this directly to the driving instructor); off-road and on-road assessment and report. An invoice will be sent to the client after the final appointment which covers the cost of the off-road and on-road assessments and report. See table of fees below for details.
