How to apply
Application procedures
All applicants, other than current La Trobe University students, should apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC): 40 Park Street, South Melbourne, 3205, telephone 1300 364 133, or telephone the VTAC Infoline on 1902 241 114. Although all care is taken in the production of our Faculty publications, the VTAC Guide should be consulted to check for any changes or alterations that may take place after publications are produced. The VTAC Guide to University and TAFE courses is published and distributed by VTAC in July each year and is available from newsagents or on-line. Current La Trobe University students should apply directly to the Selection Officer of the course. New South Wales students applying for courses at the Albury-Wodonga campus can apply through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).
Applicants whose principal language of educational instruction was other than English, are required to demonstrate proficiency in English, either by achieving a satisfactory result in VCE English or in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (or equivalent) test. IELTS results should, where possible, be submitted with the application. Each course has different requirements and prerequisites.
Special Entry Access Schemes
The Special Entry Access Schemes (SEAS) is VTAC’s umbrella program for all special entry schemes conducted by participating institutions. Information about these schemes can be found at www.vtac.edu.au
Fees
The amount payable for Commonwealth Supported Places (HECS-HELP) in 2009 for Health Sciences disciplines (except Nursing and Social Work) was $7,260 for students undertaking a standard full-time program, varying with actual enrolment load and units undertaken. For Social Work disciplines the amount payable was $4,996. In 2009 Nursing courses were allocated as National Priorities and attracted a fee of $3,998. It is important to note that the amount students pay is dependent on the individual units studied and not on the overall course being studied. For further details on HECS please consult the Department of Education, Training and Youth Affairs booklet ‘Commonwealth Supported Students 2009’, or visit the following web site: www.goingtouni.gov.au
Additional costs
In addition to HECS-HELP there may be additional costs associated with courses which may include text books, uniforms, equipment or clinical placement. Please refer to the individual course descriptions for further information.
