Welcome to the Faculty of Health Sciences website. With approximately 1700 new students accepted into our courses each year, we are keen to retain our enviable reputation of being at the forefront of health science education in Australia through both the quality of our programs and the graduates we produce.

As part of the Faculty’s continuing endeavours to lead the way in health science education, I am proud that we have joined only one other university in Australia in offering four year combined Bachelor and Master programs, with the introduction of a new set of more flexible and integrated professional undergraduate degrees for its allied health programs. The new programs have a strong student-centred focus and utilise a range of innovative teaching approaches including enquiry based learning to link theory and practice. The curriculum for all courses has been designed to produce graduates who are job ready; who are able to work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team and who will have a strong understanding of their role and that of other health professionals in the health care system. The new double degrees also share a common first year.

In addition to the new four year Bachelor and Masters programs for school leavers, the Faculty is introducing two year graduate entry Masters degrees that also lead to professional registration. Graduate Entry Masters programs are currently offered in Occupational Therapy and Speech Pathology. The disciplines of Health Information Management, Orthoptics, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics and Social Work will be offering Graduate Entry Masters programs by 2011.

As the population ages throughout the world, professionals in the health and welfare sectors will be in greater demand than ever before. The Faculty looks forward to ensuring it plays a significant role in qualifying graduates for these increasingly important professions in the future.
