Brief Profile

Prior to joining the Australian Institute for Primary Care and Ageing (AIPCA), Angela worked for ten years at St Vincent's Hospital, with 8 ½ years as the manager of the Nutrition Department. She was involved then in a collaborative research project in aged care for Deakin University and Barwon Health.

Both her Masters and PhD were completed through the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne. During her PhD, Angela designed several questionnaires dealing with students' personal states and their perceptions of clinical training in placement settings. Through the use of qualitative and quantitative research methods, she demonstrated that the two approaches are complementary and can be used together successfully. She has submitted her modifications of the Situational Leadership Model- adapting this framework for use in searching for optimal outcomes for students and supervisors involved in placement training.

In 2006, Angela completed a course on 'Public Health Perspectives on Ageing' and undertook postgraduate study in 'Public Policy and Management' at Monash University. At the same time, she accepted a part-time position with the AIPCA and has been involved in managing projects and undertaking research and evaluations, as well as writing tenders and submissions. Currently, she is the research fellow and project manager for the Australian Research Council (ARC) linkages study ‘My Place for Life: A comparison of models of care and housing for older people' . This project investigates the impacts of an innovative housing and care model on older people’s quality of life, social inclusion and entry into residential aged care.

Angela is the postgraduate research co-coordinator for the Australian Institute for Primary Care and Ageing and she provides research degree supervision to postgraduate students in areas of ageing and aged care.  She is also the co-ordinator for the Postgraduate Gerontology Program at La Trobe and the core subject  ‘Foundation Studies in Gerontology' and 'Policy, Planning and Practice in Aged Care'.
