Brief profile
Dr Michael Dillon is a Senior Lecturer at the National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics and an affiliate of the Musculoskeletal Research Centre, La Trobe University. Michael has worked as an academic for about 10 years following his initial teaching post at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With expertise in transfemoral prosthetics and in particular, ischial containment socket designs, Michael has taught this clinical speciality to both undergraduates and experienced clinicians both in Australia and abroad. Michael has previously work in interim prosthetic programs and private practice.
Michael's research has focused on the gait of persons with partial foot amputation and the influence of prosthetic intervention. This research program has made important contributions to dispelling many of the common misconceptions about how the effects of prosthetic intervention. The need for such improvements in the evidence base is becoming increasingly important as the numbers of persons undergoing partial foot amputation increase.
Michael currently serves as President of ISPO Australia following roles as Chair of the Scientific and Education Committee (2004-2010), the Annual Scientific Meeting Liaison Committee (2010-) and Vice President (2005-2011). Michael has been instrumental in the establishment of the ISPO Australia Research Grant and numerous courses and conferences which have been the backbone of ISPO Australia's mission to further education and research.
