Area of study
Leesa Hooker completed her general nurse training with the Northern District School of Nursing (Bendigo) in 1989. She then moved to Melbourne where she has had a number of clinical nursing roles in several hospitals while doing training to expand her clinical skills. On completing her Critical Care Nursing and Midwifery programs in 1994 she returned to work in rural hospitals in North/central Victoria. In 1998, on completing her Post Graduate Diploma in Public Health (Child & Family Health Nursing) she then took on the role of Maternal & Child Health Nurse (and Nurse Immuniser) with LGA & health services in rural Victoria and Queensland. In late 2009, she commenced working as a Lecturer in Nursing with La Trobe University Bendigo. Ms Hooker’s research focus includes Rural/Remote Health, Maternal & Child Health Nursing and intimate partner violence.
