Brief profile

Karen is an adjunct lecturer with the School. She job shares the position with Hilary Johnson. Her area of expertise is in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Currently, she teaches the third year subject on AAC. She also teaches at the Master’s level and is invited to present lectures on AAC to other faculties and organisations. Karen works as a consultant speech pathologist at the Communication Resource Centre, a service of Scope. She is also national training coordinator for Makaton Australia and coordinator of Makaton Victoria. Her areas of interest are the functional application of Alternative and Augmentative Communication, the use of key word sign and working with adults who have severe or profound intellectual disabilities. She is also involved with resource development to support these areas of interest.
