Brief Profile
Ms Karen Teshuva has been working in the field of gerontology since 1987. She has undertaken a senior role in a variety of research projects and consultancies in AIPCA since 1992. Karen has managed large-scale multidisciplinary survey-based research and qualitative research studies. She has evaluated aged care services and healthy ageing interventions. She has conducted literature reviews and research in a vast number of areas including models of aged care service delivery, family care, physical activity, eating patterns, cultural diversity, social inclusion, older adult learning, and spirituality. Karen’s research projects include: ‘Health Status for Older People’, ‘Caring for Older Survivors of Genocide and Mass Trauma’ and ‘Outcomes for Older People with Complex and Chronic Conditions’ and ‘Supportive Communities for Older People.’ As curriculum developer for the postgraduate courses in gerontology at La Trobe University, Karen has an extensive knowledge of the key and the current theoretical, policy, and practice literature relating to healthy ageing and wellbeing in later life and age-friendly communities. Karen is also a member of the Victorian Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) Evaluation Unit, liaising with the ACAS managers and government on a regular basis and coordinating the collection and reporting of the ACAS Minimum Data Set.
