Brief profile
Dr Dell Horey has qualifications in science and epidemiology and a strong background in consumer participation. Dell has undertaken a range of research projects using mixed methods and has advanced skills in conceptual thinking. She is an Editor with the Cochrane Collaboration Consumers and Communication Review Group and was the Australasian Coordinator for the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Review Group Consumer Panel from 1999 to 2007. Dell has been a Research Fellow at La Trobe University since 2006 and previously held similar roles at the Centre for Adolescent Health at Melbourne University and the Health Issues Centre.
Dell was part of an international research team that completed a three phase Delphi study to establish agreement on a minimum dataset for the evaluation of maternity services and has developed course curriculum for the Faculty of Health Science undergraduate and postgraduate program. She is a member of the Australasian Epidemiological Association.
Dell’s publication history reflects the diverse areas where she has used her epidemiological skills and thinking. Underlying themes are the importance of social aspects of clinical procedures and the relevance of public health approaches across all areas of health including encouraging the incorporation of choice and decision-making into the sphere of public health.
HDR Supervision: Dell Horey is keen to supervise Higher Degree Research candidates with an interest in mixed method research studies looking at:
- Public health approaches to difficult decision-making, including perinatal palliative care,
- Public health approaches to patient/consumer involvement in care, and
- Understanding workforce challenges to health service delivery.
