In addition to my role as Head of School, I am an Associate Professor with primary responsibility for the theoretical, clinical and research education of speech pathologists and associated professionals in the field of the human voice and its disorders. I completed my basic speech pathology degree in 1975 and while practicing as a clinician at the Austin Hospital in Melbourne undertook a Masters degree by research at the former Lincoln Institute. I completed the Masters degree in 1979 and later undertook a doctoral program in psychology at La Trobe University; I graduated with the PhD in 1989.

I began my academic career in 1979 at the Lincoln Institute and have remained in the School through the transition to becoming a School in the Faculty of Health Sciences at La Trobe University. In addition to my academic position, I am a Certified Practising Speech Pathologist, a Fellow of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia, and a member of the Australian Voice Association, the Australian Speech Science and Technology Association and the Gender Dysphoria team at Monash Medical Centre. I am also registered as a psychologist in the state of Victoria and am an elected member of the Council of La Trobe University and the Voice Committee of the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics.
