Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Speech Pathology

Speech Pathologist and a group of people with COPD This website was developed as part of a 4th year Bachelor of Speech Pathology project by Stephanie Coleman, Bethany Hanley, Jessica Hayward, Kristy McLean, Julia Kawanishi, and Patience Scott, under the guidance of Lydia Cvejic and Robyn O’Halloran in the School of Human Communication Sciences at La Trobe University, Melbourne.

Aims and target audience

This resource is targeted at Speech Pathologists and General Practitioners to enhance knowledge of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and the role of speech pathology in its management. A survey conducted via Speech Pathology Email Chat (SPECs) and Monash Division of General Practitioners E-News highlighted the need for such a centralised web-based resource.  Included in this website is information about COPD and swallowing, voice, and oral hygiene, as well as brochures for client distribution and a PowerPoint presentation for speech pathology in-service.
