Scholarships provide some financial assistance for

  • students with demonstrated academic excellence
  • students who have additional expenses e.g. travel, accommodation
  • students who contribute to the profession

-Apply for every scholarship that you’re eligible for! You have to be in it to win it!
-Be sure to check opening and closing dates to make sure you apply on time
-Applications for scholarships usually open in September of the preceding year of study. You must get in early!

 

Scholarships offered by La Trobe University:

Commonwealth Leaning Scholarships (CLS)
Who For? Rural and regional, low income and/or indigenous full-time students
There are two types of Commonwealth Learning Scholarships:
Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarship (CECS)
Value: $2,121 per year (2007 rate) for the normal duration of the course, including honours if applicable
Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship (CAS)
Value: $4,231 per year (2007 rate) for the normal duration of the course, including honours if applicable.

La Trobe University Study Support Scholarship (LSSS)
Who for? Students experiencing financial need and/or educational disadvantage
Value: $3,000 per year for the normal duration of the course, including honours if applicable
Requirements: Commencing full time undergraduate studies at any Victorian campus of La Trobe University

La Trobe University Indigenous Students Scholarship (LISS)
Who For? Indigenous students commencing full or part-time studies at any Victorian campus of La Trobe University
Value: $5,000 per year for the normal duration of the course, including honours if applicable.

La Trobe University Academic Excellence Scholarship (LAES)
Who For? Students commencing tertiary studies, enrolled at any Victorian campus of La Trobe University and who achieve outstanding marks in their Victorian Certificate of Education (or equivalent) completed within the past two years
Value: $2,000 per year for the normal duration of the course including honours if applicable

Prizes offered by the School of Human Communication Sciences

Annually, the School of Human Communication Sciences nominates students who have made an outstanding achievement within their undergraduate studies. These prizes and awards include:

 

 

 

 

 

Andrew Dean Fildes Foundation Award for Language Learning Disabilities ($200)
This prize will be awarded to the student in speech pathology who completes the best research paper related to language learning disabilities
Freda Hooper Memorial Award ($200)
Awarded annually to a speech pathology undergraduate student who has made a significant contribution to the speech pathology field beyond the normal requirements of their course of study
Language Learning Disability Special Interest Group Award ($200)                  
This award will be awarded to a final year student in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology who has completed a research project of high standard and/or made a significant contribution to the area of Language Learning Disabilities. The prize is a cheque for $200
Speech Pathology Association of Australia Prize ($200)                                              
The prize is awarded to a final-year speech pathology student for outstanding academic achievements and/or excellent clinical achievements throughout the course and especially in the final year
Victorian Speak Easy Association Speech Pathology Student Award ($100)
This award is given annually to a speech pathology student who has demonstrated academic and clinical excellence in the area of stuttering and its treatment. The prize is a cheque and a certificate
Winston S. Rickards Prize Medal
Awarded annually (provided that there is a candidate of sufficient merit) for the best paper submitted on therapeutic principles and their application in the field of communication disorders
Clinical Achievement Awards
Awards will be awarded annually to a student from each of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years of the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Course. This is in recognition of the developing skills attained through different phases of clinical education component.
