TREATMENT OF AUTISM

There are a number of different treatment and management techniques which may be considered when planning intervention for a child with autism (Schopler, 2001). The treatment and management options described on this website have been selected after consideration of the research evidence currently available. A level of evidence table was used to assist in evaluating each treatment and management option (See below).

Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA)

Computer- based intervention

Functional Communication Training (FCT)

Hanen Program: More Than Words

Makaton

Musical Interaction Therapy

The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)

Social Stories

Medications
