This course is designed to meet the preliminary postgraduate learning needs of health care managers, and clinical and support services professionals, interested in health policy or management. The subjects provide an opportunity for those working in health care to acquire foundation health services management skills at a postgraduate level. The course is designed to introduce health professionals to the formal study of health management, assisting students to develop key competencies in health management, while exploring broader health policy and management concepts. This course provides a structure for the study of the health sector and health policy context in which the manager works, together with an emphasis on targeted knowledge and skills that effective managers need. The graduate certificate may be completed online.
The course is normally undertaken part time, over one year, and students are required to complete four subjects – two core and two electives – from the structure detailed below. After completion, students may apply to progress to the Master of Health Sciences. The Graduate Certificate will be subsumed upon completion of the higher qualification.
The program’s timetable is designed to accommodate working students, and offers a combination of evening, block and online modes. Subjects with classes are taught at the Collins Street (City) Campus.
