Bachelor of Journalism (Sport)
Course code/s: ABJS Melbourne.
The Bachelor of Journalism (Sport) is a vocationally orientated degree taught by La Trobe’s highly regarded journalism program. The degree consists of 360 credit points that can be completed in three years of study, part-time enrolment is also available.
Each year is split into two semesters made up of four subjects worth 15 credit points each. In the first year, students study a combination of journalism subjects and sport management subjects. This gives students an introduction into journalism writing and broadcasting as well as an understanding of the broader sport industry. It is the perfect first year for students who aspire to have career in sport but are not sure in what role.
In second and third year, the focus is on the specific skills required to be a sport journalist or commentator. There are exclusive subjects in the degree such as Sport Reporting and Sport Media Issues.
The course is designed to equip graduates with the skills needed for a career in the growing and increasingly complex world of sport journalism or in the sport communications field.
