Diploma in Languages

Course code/s: ADIL Melbourne

This diploma allows students to complete a three-year sequence in a foreign language while maintaining the requirements for their chosen degree. This diploma must be taken concurrently with a La Trobe Bachelors degree. To complete the Diploma in Languages students must undertake a minimum of 120 credit points in one of Chinese, French, Hindi, Modern Greek, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese or Spanish. Students enrol in their chosen language at each year level and are normally expected to enrol in less than a full-time load in their degree subjects for that year. This process will extend the period required to complete both programs to at least 4 years. The relevant language coordinator will advise students about the level of entry and sequence of subjects to be taken for the diploma.

Can I start a Diploma of Languages in semester two?

No, normally a student is required to commence a language in semester 1 as the language sequence is sequential. Students wishing to commence a language subject in semester 2 should contact the subject coordinator to discuss their options.
