La Trobe University Library
The library provides scholarly information resources, proactive information services and managed learning spaces for all University students and staff through its network of campus libraries and its website. In partnership with Faculties and Divisions, the library team work to transform student lives through learning and create new and useful knowledge.
80 per cent of the library’s new resources are now held in digital format, including an extensive range of scholarly databases, 125,000 ejournal titles and 350,000 ebooks, all of which are available online to students anytime, anywhere.
The main physical collection is held at the Borchardt Library at the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, with more than 2 million books, journals and audiovisual materials. Excellent print collections to meet local teaching and research needs are also held at the David Mann Library at Albury-Wodonga and the Heyward Library at Bendigo.
Library services at Albury-Wodonga, Mildura and Shepparton are provided as shared facilities with the local Institutes of TAFE and provide key collections of resources to support courses taught at those campuses.
Students and staff at all campuses can use intercampus loans to obtain books and other items from other La Trobe University campuses. The library also participates in several reciprocal borrowing schemes, including BONUS+, with other Australian universities and TAFE colleges, enabling La Trobe University students and staff to borrow from participating libraries. Approved borrowers can also access the resources of other libraries through the library’s document delivery service.
Each campus library has computer workstations, printing and copying facilities, wireless network access, training rooms, and quiet and group study areas to meet learning and research needs.
Library staff provide assistance with finding and evaluating scholarly information, using databases and the library catalogue, and developing effective information search skills. Support is delivered in person at service desks, via targeted training sessions and tours, and online via web-based tutorials, phone, email and a live chat service.
The library also provides assistance to maximise the accessibility of library resources and facilities for students with a temporary or permanent disability, and hosts student learning advisors to provide peer support during semester at each campus library.
Campus libraries are open for extended hours during semester. Opening hours for all campuses are available from the library website.
