Emergency evacuation

Each University building is required to undertake two emergency evacuation drills per year. On hearing the fire bell or evacuation tone in the building:

you must exit the building via the nearest emergency exit and proceed to the assembly area as directed by the Building Warden
you must not enter any building whilst the fire bell or evacuation tones are being sounded.

Building Wardens/Floor Wardens can be identified by their red or yellow bump cap, or in Bendigo by a tabard.

Please note: All University buildings and University vehicles are no-smoking zones.

Security Services

The Security department is responsible for maintaining a safe environment on all campuses and professionally responding to incidents.

Security officers conduct an important role in ensuring that staff, students, visitors, facilities and assets are protected from incidents such as theft, burglary, vandalism and threats. Security is on site 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year.

An emergency phone number has been allocated at all University campuses. Please create a contact in your mobile phone, relevant to your campus:

Melbourne

In the case of a serious emergency, where an Ambulance, Fire Brigade, or other special response is needed, please call Extension 2222 or telephone 9479 2222 or freecall 1 800 800 613. This will put you directly in contact with the Security Control Centre. This centre dispatches all Police, Fire, Emergency Medical, and other emergency response personnel.

Franklin Street

For all Campus Emergencies please dial (03) 9285 5100.

If there is no answer dial 0 000 and ask for the Emergency Service required.

Albury-Wodonga

For all Campus Emergency and Security issues dial 8222 or 1300 742 742, or mobile 0418 459 324 (after hours service).

Bendigo

For all Campus Emergencies dial Extension 7999 (24 hour service) or free call 1800 077 043.

Mildura

From a phone on campus dial Extension 4099 (9am-5pm), or call Security on 5022 7855 (24 hours).

Shepparton

For all Campus Emergencies, dial Extension 8600 (9am-5pm) after hours (03) 5825 3178.
