General information about the Mildura Campus

Introduction

The main campus at Mildura is located at 471 Benetook Avenue, between Eleventh and Fourteenth Streets, Mildura, and is three kilometres from the city centre and serviced by public transport.

The City campus at Mildura is located in the George and William Chaffey Building at 29 Deakin Avenue in the Mildura CBD.

The Visual Arts Research Studio is located in the Mildura arts precinct at 7 Chaffey Avenue, Mildura

Student services

Student services include counselling, disability support, Indigenous student support, student transition and peer mentoring, accommodation services, financial aid advice, language and academic skills assistance and international student support.

Accommodation

On-campus student accommodation in Mildura is available at SuniTAFE Student Residences, which offers self-catered single or twin share study bedrooms, complemented by communal kitchens and common areas. The Residences are about a 30 minutes walk or a 5 minutes drive from the City centre.

Student rooms

The SuniTAFE Student Residences in Mildura has Small Single and Large Single study bedrooms available for student accommodation. Each student has their own bed (bedding needs to be supplied) desk, chair wardrobe, bedside drawers, bookshelf and pinboard. Students can bring their own TV set, computer and bar fridge. The rooms have air-conditioning and heating. Rooms are cleaned weekly by the cleaners.

Lounge and kitchen areas

Each unit has:

  • Communal kitchen with fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, kettle and toaster
  • Lounge and TV area.
  • Phone for incoming calls
  • Communal bathrooms with showers, basins and toilets; cleaned daily

The laundry has commercial washing machines and driers and is part of the wider residential complex.

Leisure facilities

The common room has a large TV and VCR. A table tennis table is available. A gas barbecue is provided and is set in a spacious garden setting.

Safety and security

Each unit is equipped with an emergency alarm, fire extinguishers, smoke and heat detectors, fire blanket and first aid kit. Practice evacuation and emergency procedures are carried out twice a year.

Disabled access

One of the units is fitted out with a disabled bathroom and is designed for wheelchair access as is the Campus.

General Information

A secured car compound is available for student use.

Students may be required to vacate their rooms during term breaks to allow occupancy by sporting or business organisations.

Campus facilities

The Brian Grogan Building at the Mildura Campus includes a 137-seat lecture theatre (with videoconferencing), tutorial/seminar rooms, computer resource laboratory, nursing laboratory, administration and lecturer offices. The building also houses the Murray-Darling Freshwater Research Centre, Lower Basin Laboratory. Other facilities in or near the building include shaded outdoor areas, library, on-site student residential accommodation, book shop, food outlets, child care facility and free car parking.

The George and William Chaffey Building, (Deakin Avenue Campus) comprises lecture and seminar rooms, student lounge and courtyard, computer resource laboratory, Business, Social Work and Executive staff offices.

The Visual Arts Research Studio, (Chaffey Avenue) comprises individual work studios and exhibition spaces for postgraduate and honours students studying the visual arts.

Facilities, which are shared with the Sunraysia Institute of TAFE for fine art include extensive painting, print making, sculpture, drawing and photographic/multimedia studios associated with darkrooms for black and white and colour production. A networked Apple computer system, scanners, laser printers and digital video editing suite are utilised in the Visual Arts courses.

Gambetta Library

The Gambetta Library is a shared facility of La Trobe University and Sunraysia Institute of TAFE, and provides core materials for all subjects and courses taught at the Mildura campus. Extra material may be sourced from the larger campuses via inter-campus loan and the Library’s growing collection of electronic resources is available to students at all campuses. Computer workstations are available for assignment preparation, and for accessing material held by the Library in electronic format. High-quality photocopying and printing facilities are available in the Library. Training and help is available, both in person and online, for individuals and class groups to support research and information skills.
