Subject enrolment
The subject coordinator’s signature is required for enrolment in any subject after the first week of semester.
Subject Prerequisites
A student may not enrol for any subject without having completed the prerequisites, except with prior approval of the subject coordinator.
Subject quotas
Quotas are imposed on some first, second and third year subjects, these include media studies and drama subjects. For details, please see the specific subject descriptions via a subject search
Students allocated a place in a quota-controlled subject must confirm the acceptance of their place by attending class in the first week, or by contacting the subject coordinator before the end of the first week. Places that are not confirmed by the end of the first week of classes may be made available to a student on the waiting list.
Availability of subject
Schools may decide not to offer subjects if insufficient students choose to enrol. All subjects are offered subject to the availability of appropriate staffing and resources, students should consult the advisers of studies in the relevant disciplines.
Completion of a subject
The successful completion of a subject will require students to fulfil different types of assessment, these can include, but are not limited to, an examination, satisfactory completion of any exercises and work necessary, attendance at lectures, tutorials and other classes as required. For details about the assessment requirements for a specific subject, please see that subject's requirements available via a subject search
A student who has not complied with the requirements for a subject may be refused admission to the annual examination in a subject.
Subjects that may be taken at either second or third year level
Where a subject is listed at both second and third year levels, students may enrol either at second year level (e.g. SOC2SOE) or at third year level (e.g. SOC3SOE) but not at both year levels.
Students MUST complete subjects that are listed as CORE at the required year level, regardless of the subject being available at both year levels e.g. JRN2DIJ is a core 2nd year subject in the Bachelor of Journalism and must be taken at 2nd year level, but is available as an elective at either 2nd or 3rd year level in other degrees.
