Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration)

Course Duration: 1 year full-time
The Bachelor of Nursing (Post Registration) is a full-time 120 credit point pass degree that enables registered nurses to enhance their professional knowledge and upgrade their qualifications to bachelor’s level. The course is offered at the Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo and Melbourne campuses. Part-time studies may be negotiated. The course aims to provide students with the academic and clinical skills required to comprehend, critically analyse and evaluate new knowledge in nursing. Graduates of the course will have a strong discipline base for postgraduate studies.
The key characteristics of the course are:
- recognises prior learning (RPL)
- assists students to build upon their prior nursing qualifications and attain a bachelor's degree
- leads to eligibility for postgraduate studies in nursing
- a person-centred philosophy
- offers enquiry-based learning as the predominant method of course delivery
- integrates content within and across subject areas.
Graduates will attain the competencies defined by the ANMC National Competency Standards and will meet the University's and the Faculty of Health Sciences' graduate capabilities.
Professional recognition
This course leads to an Australian and Internationally recognised Bachelor of Nursing qualification. It should be noted that this course does not lead to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Students enrolled in this program will also be registered as students with the NMBA by La Trobe University at no cost.
Admission requirements
Applicants must be currently registered and eligible to practise as a general nurse (based on Certificate or Diploma qualification with a minimum of three-years in nursing) with a recognised nursing authority in your own country. Applicants must provide a copy of their current nursing registration with their application form and must complete the La Trobe University Cornerstone Program prior to the International Welcome Festival and Orientation Program in February 2012.
Clinical requirements
This course offered at the Albury-Wodonga, Bendigo and Melbourne campuses has a clinical component. Students may be required to undertake clinical placement outside of standard university semester dates.
All students are required to obtain a National Police Check (A$15.50) and Working with Children Check (no cost), immunisations (A$250-470) and a First Aid II Certificate (A$160) prior to commencement of clinical placement. Students should allow approximately A$300 for a uniform and equipment. All prices are approximate and are subject to change.
