Bachelor of Accounting

Course code/s: LBCB Bendigo

This course enables students to obtain a professional accounting qualification. It is designed to equip students with competence and expertise in areas such as financial accounting, management accounting, auditing, finance, business law, taxation, business communication and information systems.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements are VCE Units 3 and 4 – a study score of at least 25 in English (ESL) or 20 in any other English and units 1 and 2 any study combination, math (any) or Units 3 and 4 mathematics (any).  Those applying at mid-year by direct application are not required to have the mathematics pre-requisite.

Applicants with comparable qualifications will be considered. A limited number of students may also be considered under Special Entry Schemes.

Professional recognition

This course is structured to meet the accreditation requirements of CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (ICAA). In order to meet the accreditation requirements of the ICAA, Taxation and Auditing must be completed.

Degree requirements

Students must complete a course of subjects accumulating at least 360 credit points, of which 285 credit points must be subjects offered by the Faculty of Law and Management. The course is designed to be completed within three years of full-time study, although part-time study is possible.

Students must undertake 120 credit points at first year level and 120 credit points at third year level, including at least 90 credit points at third year level from the Faculty of Law and Management. Variations to this structure are subject to approval by the course coordinator.

To complement the Accounting major, students may also choose to complete another business major or a minor. Business majors consist of seven subjects, minors consist of four subjects. Bachelor of Accounting students at the Bendigo campus may also major in human resource management, marketing or international business, or minor in management, human resource management, business law, economics or marketing.

Major in human resource management

The objective of this major is to develop students’ knowledge and skills in areas of human resource management and employee relations, in addition to a range of general management disciplines.

Professional Recognition

Successful completion of this course will prepare graduates for admission to the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) depending on electives and work experience.

Major in marketing

Marketing reinforces the importance of communication skills in business. The increasingly competitive nature of business makes it evident that a marketing approach taken by graduates provides them with a competitive advantage in the workplace. This major in the Bachelor of Business course has been designed to produce graduates who can perform as managers in marketing, sales, market research, advertising, promotional management, marketing planning and marketing strategy.

Professional Recognition

Graduates are eligible to join the Australian Marketing Institute as associate members or the Market Research Society of Australia, initially with associate membership status.

Minor in Human Resource Management

Managing the people who make up an organisation is known as human resource management (HRM). This encompasses issues such as recruitment and selection, motivation, determination of pay, occupational health and safety, promotion, training and development of employees and international HRM. Human resource management plays an increasingly important role in the strategic decision-making of organisations. Theory is complemented by real world examples whenever possible in the subjects studied in this major.
