The Master of Nursing Science in Child, Family & Community is a one-year, full-time or two-year, part-time, 120-credit point award leading to qualification to practise in maternal and child health nursing. It aims to prepare nurses for a broad community approach to nursing children and families, particularly for those who are in the prenatal to school-entry stage of the life cycle. Attendance at two 3-day clinical workshops is compulsory. Workshops are held at the Melbourne campus.
Admission requirements
The Admission requirements are the satisfactory completion of a Postgraduate Diploma of Midwifery or equivalent qualification, normally with an average grade of B or above. Applicants must hold current unrestricted registration, as both a nurse and midwife, with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Normally a minimum of one year’s recent clinical practice experience is required for admission.
Degree requirements
The minimum time for completing the course is one-year, full-time and the maximum is three years. The course may be taken either full-time or part-time.

Attendance at two 3-day clinical workshops is compulsory. Workshops are usually held at the Melbourne campus. The clinical speciality subjects NSG5CPI and NSG5CPI are offered on campus by flexi-mode delivery. All other subjects offered via distance education.
