Master of Outdoor and Environmental Education

The course is an advanced program intended for professionals in outdoor and environmental education and related fields. The two year program is open to candidates from any field of study. Candidates with four years of approved study including at least one year in a cognate field are eligible for advanced standing entry to the second year of the program.
The second year has project and thesis options. The thesis provides an opportunity to demonstrate the ability to conduct research and qualify for entry to a higher degree by research.
Duration
The 240 credit point program may be taken over two years full-time or three to six years part-time.
Applicants with a relevant fourth year qualification receive 120 credit points of advanced standing and take a 120 credit point program over one year full-time or two to three years part-time.
Admission requirements
Applicants with a three year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification are eligible for entry to the full two-year program (240 credit points) consisting of subjects from the Graduate Diploma in Outdoor and Environmental Education (120 credit points) and Masters level subjects (120 credit points).
Direct entry to the second year of the program (120 credit points) may be offered to applicants who can demonstrate academic achievement at a level that indicates likely success at Masters level, and
- have a three year degree in any field and a graduate diploma in a cognate field to outdoor or environmental education, or
- have a four year degree in a cognate field, or
- have a three year degree in a cognate field to outdoor or environmental education and an approved fourth year of study in a relevant discipline.
Applicants seeking direct entry to the second year of the program must have research training or experience.
Course structure
The first year of the 240 credit point program consists of subjects from the OED4RM Research Methods in Outdoor Education (Honours) in the first year of the course.
In accordance with University regulations, suitably qualified students may elect to exit the Masters program with the Graduate Diploma qualification after completing the first year of studies. Students who enrol in and complete the two year Masters program are not eligible to receive both the Graduate Diploma award and the Masters award unless they enrol in the two separate programs.
